LAC Multifocali Design
Multifocal contact lenses are ideal for people who want to have greater independence from reading glasses. The two main types of multifocal contact lenses are either Concentric or Aspheric optical designs. Concentric multifocals aim to provide correction for far vision and intermediate distances. These lenses work well in all light conditions. Centre distance aspheric multifocal lenses correct for far distances in the centre of the lens and smoothly transition into intermediate and near vision focus. Centre distance aspheric lenses tend to provide better distance vision and some near vision because the central portion of the lens corrects distance vision. Centre near aspheric multifocal contacts correct for near vision in the centre of the lens and smoothly transition into intermediate and distance vision focus on the periphery of the lens. These multifocals provide improved near vision compared to centre distance designs because the central portion of the lens is optimized for near vision. Some manufacturers offer a mixed design where a centre distance lens in placed on the dominant eye and a centre near on the non-dominant eye. This approach works well for people who need to see clearly at all distances but can may not be suitable for everyone. Multifocal contact lenses are available as monthly, bi-weekly and even daily disposable lenses. Your practitioner will ask about your lifestyle and activities in order to select the best multifocal lens design for you.
