Trattamento Eyelight
There's a new hi-tech and painless treatment that's available for people suffering from dry eye syndrome due to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction or MGD. Generally, most patients with MGD are managed with artificial tears and warm compresses, but these provide only partial relief. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy has until now been used for skin treatment of Rosacea but was found to have a positive effect for dry eye sufferers. The first step in treatment, is to wear protective goggles. Then, a thick gel is applied under each eye. The intensity of light is adjusted to skin pigmentation. Any make-up and cosmetic products will be removed. Five pulses of light are applied under each eye to help unblock the glands to improve the quality of tears. The exact mechanism of IPL is not clearly understood, but research shows that there is an 85% improvement in of the quality of tears after treatment. A course of three treatments over a 6-week period is recommended with some patients noticing a marked improvement after just the first.
