Blefarite da Demodex
Our bodies have millions of bacteria and microscopic mites. Most of these live naturally in everyone's skin. A very common mite, called Demodex, lives in the lash follicles and oil producing glands in the eyelids. Most people are completely unaware of their presence. However, over time, they can increase in number because of changes to our skin and lash follicles. This can cause symptoms of itching or burning, foreign body sensation, redness of the eyelid margin, crusting and blurry vision. Demodex can cause anterior blepharitis and Meibomian gland dysfunction. If you have symptoms of Demodex, there are a number of treatments to manage symptoms. The most effective treatments are performed in-practice. Deep cleaning the lid margins, helps to remove Demodex affecting the lash follicles, and to remove irritable toxins produced by the mites. Demodex is also effectively treated with Intense Pulsed Light or IPL therapy. This treatment is effective in treating Demodex affecting the lash follicles and oil producing glands. At home treatments with specifically developed lid wipes are recommended to control Demodex.
