Lenti a Defocus Periferico

Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segment lens technology, also known as DIMS lens technology is a spectacle lens engineered specifically to slow down the rate of myopia progression. DIMS technology is available in the MiYOSMART lens. All current myopia management treatments slow down myopia and therefore do not stop the progression of myopia. However, even if 1 unit of myopia is reduced in an individual, it results in a 40% reduced risk of developing myopic macular degeneration - an untreatable disease associated with all levels of myopia that causes permanent and irreversible sight loss later in life. A widely accepted theory of myopia progression is that peripheral light focussed behind the retina, often referred to as peripheral hyperopia, is the stimulus for eye growth and therefore an increase in myopia. When your eye-care professional corrects myopia with conventional spectacles, the light is refocussed on the central retina but reintroduces peripheral hyperopia which leads to further eye growth until early adulthood. The MiYOSMART lens has hundreds of tiny lenslets in a honeycomb arrangement around a central 9mm zone. The central zone corrects myopia to focus light on the central retina to make distance vision clear. The aim of the lenslets is to focus peripheral light light in front of the retina, thereby correcting peripheral hyperopia. Research shows that children between 8 and 13 years of age with the MiYOSMART lens, had 62% less eye growth compared to children wearing conventional spectacle lenses. In addition, children using the MiYOSMART lens also had 52% less increase in myopia. As with other myopia management options, MiYOSMART lenses should be worn until the age of 21 or as recommended by your eye-care practitioner. Stopping the treatment at this age is recommended because 90% of children stabilize by this time. Stopping treatment early could lead to a reversal of treatment effect. The MiYOSMART lens is an ideal choice for myopia management in children as it is effective at slowing down myopia. The MiYOSMART lens technology is invisible to the naked eye, it is made from a thin, light, impact resistant material, offers UV protection and anti-glare coatings.
